CLIMATE CRISIS IN SOMALIA

Recurrent Drought

Droughts are a natural occurrence. It is characterized by long periods of lack of rain, resulting in water shortages caused by climate change.

Regular Flooding

General flooding comes from more prolonged steady rain and tends to affect larger streams and rivers. Major shabelle river often reach flood stages because of events in distant areas of their watershed.

Chronic Food insecurity

The chronically food insecure include those sectors of the population which lack adequate income, assets and/or resources at the household level to produce or otherwise gain access to the basic food needs of the household.
